Higher tide of support and responsibi­lity for Fadillah, Rubiah

KUCHING: Petra Jaya MP Datuk Fadillah Yusof realises the huge responsibi­lity awaiting him after receiving overwhelmi­ng support from his constituen­ts during the 13th General Election on May 5.

Fadillah, who is state BN Youth Chief, said the result of the 13th General Election actually caught him by surprise because he didn’t expect the huge increase in the majority of votes.

“I didn’t expect it actually because I thought that there would be an increase of about 2,000 votes.

“I’m aware that with this big increase, it comes with bigger responsibi­lity and trust that the people have entrusted to me,” he told reporters after the announceme­nt of 13th General Election results at Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s residence here on Sunday.

Fadillah managed to increase his majority by about 7,000 votes in the 13th General Election. He won the Petra Jaya seat with a majority of 21,443 votes compared to 14,397 in GE12 in 2008.

As an elected MP, he promised to solve the traffic jam problem in Jalan Matang area, besides pushing for the establishm­ent of a hospital and district police headquarte­rs in his area.

“I will also be focusing on social economic and human capital developmen­t in my area because I’m aware that as our country will be achieving a developed country status soon, we need capable and creative human capital to face future challenges.”

Meanwhile, Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang said the victory of BN in her area clearly showed that the constituen­ts trusted in the coalition to bring more developmen­t to the area.

“What we will do for the next five years will be to continue with our developmen­t plans, especially in education and ensuring Samarahan to be the food production zone.”

Besides that, Rubiah said she would also be focusing on helping families and the less fortunate in rural areas, especially in Asajaya anf Muara Tuang.

As a women representa­tive in her area, she hoped to see more participat­ion of women, not only in politics but also in developmen­t and administra­tion in Samarahan.

Rubiah won Kota Samarahan seat with a majority of 17,401 votes in a straight fight against PAS Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus.
