I doubt ‘Ubah’ reps can do much – SUPP member

-

SARIKEI: The huge loss suffered by SUPP in the justconcluded 13th general election means that the people are going to miss a lot of “good services” and attention from the Barisan Nasional ( BN) government for at least the next five years.

A member of SUPP, who requested anonymity, said the loss could also be seen as a good time for SUPP to take a rest and take stock of things.

“Another `ubah' (change) that will come out of this is that there would be less noise from the opposition as they have nobody from SUPP to bark at,” he said.

In the May 5 polls, SUPP contested in seven parliamentary constituencies and won only one – Serian. It failed to win back Bandat Kuching and Sibu, and lost Stampin, Lanang, Sarikei and Miri.

The SUPP member, who sounded frustrated, said he doubted Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives could offer anything better than BN elected ones.

“Let those who had voted for `ubah' see and experience `ubah' in the coming years,” said the SUPP member when asked for his reaction to the defeat of Ding Kuong Hiing in Sarikei.

Ding polled 13,758 votes but that was not good enough to retain Sarikei as Andrew Wong Ling Biu from the DAP romped home with 14,263 votes – a 505 vote-majority.

The SUPP member said by right the constituents in all Pakatan Rakyat seats should now turn to their elected representatives for help while SUPP “rest”.

“I am sorry to inform the voters that they will miss a lot of the good services and attention of the BN government which they themselves know from past experiences.”
