Man on trial for breaking BN flagpoles, threatenin­g

KOTA KINABALU: A local man will stand trial in the Magistrate’s Court on June 12 and 14 for two charges of breaking two Barisan Nasional ( BN) flagpoles and threatenin­g a local man at the party’s election machinery headquarte­rs.

Nelson Jevian, 24, who appeared before magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof, on the first count, was alleged to have snapped the flagpoles at a bus station of Kampung Air Ganang between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on April 27.

He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The second charge accused him of threatenin­g the man at the election machinery headquarte­rs using a machete at the same day at 10.30pm.

The offence was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of seven years and liability to a fine upon conviction.

Nelson, who had allegedly committed the offence with an accomplice still at large, was released on RM3,500 bail for both charges deposited with two local sureties.

Senior federal counsel Jamil Aripin prosecuted.
