Baru admits stunned by huge margin
LIMBANG: State PKR chief Baru Bian, who stood against Hasbi Habibollah from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB/BN) for the Limbang Parliamentary seat, was stunned by the big majority in favour of Hasbi.
Baru disclosed that he did not expect to lose by such a proportion and was very disappointed by the outcome, he said to The Borneo Post when contacted in Kuching yesterday.
In Sunday’s Limbang parliamentary polling results, Baru only managed 4,698 votes against Habis’ 12,999.
Baru said obviously the people’s reaction towards BN government development goodies was a major factor and it shows they are still caught within the poverty trap.
He said the people especially in the rural areas are close to the BN and could not relate to the opposition’s fight for a new government.
Baru, who is also state assemblyman for Ba Kelalan, claimed that money politics contributed heavily to his defeat where voters were paid by certain people to influence their choice.
