Mohamad grateful for continuous mandate for BN
SEREMBAN: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan thanked the people of Negeri Sembilan for continuing to give their mandate to Barisan Nasional ( BN), despite the various accusations made against the coalition by the opposition.
He said BN’s win in 22 of the 36 state seats, and five parliamentary seats, enabled the coalition to form a government to continue with the agenda of bringing prosperity to the people of Negeri Sembilan and the state.
“I thank the people of Negeri Sembilan for having given their trust and mandate to BN to continue to administer the state,” he told a media conference at the Menteri Besar’s official residence, here yesterday.
He said the victory would enable the BN government to continue with the agenda that had been planned for the state and to fulfill the promises made to the people.
Mohamad said he was satisfied with the BN’s performance in the state because the coalition was not only able to retain power, but was also able to increase the number of seats won from that in the 2008 general election.
However, he said, the failure of MCA to win any parliamentary and state seats gave a clear indication that the people rejected candidates from the party, adding that it could bring about a worrying trend.
He said a post mortem would be carried out to find out the reason for the people’s rejection of MCA.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, who retained the Rembau parliamentary seat, said the increase in majority votes secured by him, compared with the results of the 2008 general election for the constituency, reflected the people’s acceptance of the BN government.
Khairy, who obtained 43,053 votes, defeating PKR’s Radzali A. Ghani, who garnered 24,696 votes and Independent candidate, Abdul Aziz Hassan (325 votes).
Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad also thanked voters in the Jempol parliamentary constituency for their support which gave BN the win.
