Kevin Cheng to produce TV series, to co-star with top Hong Kong actors
HONG KONG: Kevin Cheng, who has been focusing on mainland China dramas for years, is hoping to produce a TV series tailor-made for Hong Kong.
He is hoping to work with top actors like Kenneth Ma, Wayne Lai and Myolie Wu.
Kevin has been making a name for himself since working on the TV series Startling by Each Step. Since then, he has worked on seven other mainland China dramas.
Also fattening up his revenue are appearances at promotional events and commercial endorsements. In just over one year, his net revenue per year has soared to over 100 million yuan ( RM49 million).
On the recent Forbes China Top 100 Celebrities list, Kevin ranked 46th, the highest among Hong Kong entertainers.
Commenting on his ranking, Kevin told Ming Pao Weekly: “Of course when I learned about the Forbes China rankings, I was very happy and surprised. After all it is a form of recognition. As one of the representatives in the TV industry, I am happy to have such accomplishment.”
Is he saving up for his marriage?
Disclosed Kevin: “I have established my own work studio, so I have to save up in order to start shooting TV series. For my first project, I’ll be part of the cast, but I need to have attractive and strong artistes to participate too. This will require quite a bit of my budget.”
On getting showbiz pals to appears in the series, Kevin laughed and said: “It’s all still in the works. I’ve been searching for a good script before and still working hard now. It is really not that simple being a producer. You have to invest a lot of time and energy into it.”
Kevin hopes to begin shooting the new TV series in June. Moreover, he is also recording a new music album.
On future collaborations, he said: “I want to collaborate with my good friends in this debut project, such as Wayne Lai whom I have always admired. Kenneth Ma, we had good chemistry in A Fistful of Stances; Myolie Wu and Cecilia Liu, I’ve worked with them on Ghetto Justice and Startling by Each Step respectively. “
