Sum payback for mandate

LAWAS: Re-elected Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong has pledged to repay the trust of his constituen­ts for returning the BN in this rural constituen­cy.

Sum beat Dr Bob Baru of DAP and Alirahman Kamseh of STAR, romping home with a handsome 6,030-vote majority in a three-cornered fight in P222 Lawas.

He polled 9,928 votes against Dr Bob’s 3,898 and Kamseh who only obtained 69 votes. The constituen­cy has a total of 18,845 registered voters.

His victory, as announced by Lawas returning officer Mohd Supaih Hamdan at 8pm Sunday night, was greeted with shouts of joy by his supporters after waiting patiently for the results which streamed in since 1.30pm. Among those at the scene were BN Lawas election director Puasa Pandin and Sum’s election agent councillor Awangku Jinal Abedin Pengiran Jawa.

He thanked all the voters and leaders of national and state BN for their support to ensure his victory.

He particular­ly expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environmen­t cum Bukit Sari assemblyma­n Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan for their hard work and efforts in campaignin­g for his reelection.
