Cultural series out to preserve Iban arts and heritage

-

SIBU: Kusenitari Sibu staged its ‘Cultural Arts Exploration Series’ with the longhouse community recently in an effort to preserve the Iban arts and heritage.

Chairman Addy Sa’at said tradition and culture ought not to be put aside “because they reflect who we are”.

“We need to look into this very seriously, and it requires involvement from everybody and I believe it is something that we need to preserve and develop,” he reiterated.

According to him, the tradition and culture of the Iban have much to show to the people, be they tourists or local children.

Speaking at the event held at Rh Christine in Nanga Entabai, Julau, and Rh Jiddy in Rantau Panjang, Addy said traditional and cultural arts of the people would be hard to preserve if people did not get themselves involved.

“What is very disappointing is that some of the longhouses do not have complete traditional music instruments – very important items that should be preserved always,” he noted.

He hoped that more people could work together to help rekindle some of the dying traditions.

At the function, Kusenitari Sibu presented goodies worth RM150 each to 35 residents of Rh Jiddy and 30 of Rh Christine.
