Nansian’s sincerity doubted by SPDP

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party ( SPDP) Tasik Biru division yesterday expressed doubt over the sincerity of Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian to close ranks with new Mas Gading MP Anthony Nogeh Gumbek.

Its treasurer Gines Ruwia said SPDP Tasik Biru never forgets what Nansian and the Group of Five had done to lobby for Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe prior to the 13th General Election.

Even during the election, Gines said word was going around that Dr Tiki rode on the G5 machinery during campaigning and was secretly supported by Nansian.

After he did so much damage in disuniting the community, why is he now talking about reconciliation? That is utter nonsense because we still remember what he did in Mas Gading. Gines Ruwia, treasurer

“After he did so much damage in disuniting the community, why is he now talking about reconciliation? That is utter nonsense because we still remember what he did in Mas Gading,” said Gines.

Nansian, who is also an assistant minister with two portfolios, was quoted in yesterday’s newspapers as expressing his readiness to work together with Nogeh in the shared spirit of BN.

Though claiming to be neutral during campaigning in Mas Gading, Nansian said he did not go against the BN and did not anticipate any problem with cooperation since both he and Nogeh are in the same BN boat.

Last Sunday, Nogeh was declared the winner in Mas Gading and he foiled the attempt by Dr Tiki to wrest the seat by a majority of 2,156 votes.

Nogeh polled 8,265 votes, while Dr Tiki contesting as independent managed 6,109 votes in a four-cornered fight.

Mordi Bimol of Democratic Action Party ( DAP) received 5,293 votes while another former MP Patrick Anek Uren of State Reform Party ( STAR) only polled 462 votes.

Dr Tiki, who previously held the seat for three terms, received many votes in polling stations in Singai areas under the Tasik Biru state constituency.

Gines, who is from Singai himself, believed many votes went to Dr Tiki in Singai due to influence and manipulative strategy by the G5.

He nonetheless relieved BN had won the seat following overwhelming support from other areas.

Tasik Biru, together with Opar state constituency, make up the predominantly Bidayuh parliamentary seat of Mas Gading.
