Don’t to arrogant, don’t forget yourself — family’s advice for Idris

-

MELAKA: “Don’t be arrogant and don’t forget yourself.” This was among the advice given by his sister-in-law and mother-in-law to Melaka’s new chief minister, Datuk Idris Haron.

Almost teary eyed, two of the most important individuals in Idris’ life also expressed gratefulness that Idris would be able to contribute more to the people of Melaka through his new responsibilities as CM.

Idris’ sister-in-law, Ramlah Dahili, 80, who had looked after him since age eight after his father died and his mother remarried, said she was proud that his brother-in-law had become a useful individual to the people, state and nation.

“Even if I die in a day or two, I am satisfied how he ( Idris) has turned out to be...there’s nothing more precious than the good result of the upbringing and education he received,” she said when met after Idris was sworn in as chief minister at the Office of the Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri in Ayer Keroh, here, yesterday.

Idris, 47, who is also the assemblyman for Sungai Udang, replaces his predecessor Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam who was Melaka CM for 13 years since December 1999.

Ramlah who married Idris’ elder brother, Ahmad Haron, described Idris as a religious person since young who once as a child, cried when he was not awakened from sleep to perform his Subuh ( pre- dawn) prayers, hence she was confident that he would take good care of Melaka and the people.

Idris’ mother-in-law, Raisah Kamal Khan, 68, hoped that her first son-in-law who married her eldest daughter, Datin Fadilah Abdullah, would remain humble so that the people would find him likeable and approachable.

“I pray that Idris will ensure that Melaka remain peaceful and will take good care of the people,” she said.

Before taking up the CM post, Idris was the chairman of the national housing agency, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad.

Meanwhile, Melaka MCA chairman Datuk Gan Tian Loo said its leaders and members would fully support Idris’ leadership in further developing Melaka.

State MIC chief Datuk R. Perumal said Idris was definitely suitable for the CM post with his good qualifications and wealth of experience.

“MIC will give him its full support to steer Melaka to greater success,” he said. — Bernama
