Dramatic increase in majority for Limbang MP

-

MIRI: Barisan Nasional’s ( BN) Hasbi Habibollah managed to dramatically increase his winning majority on Sunday to clinch his second term as Limbang Member of Parliament.

Hasbi defeated Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chief Baru Bian by a majority of 8,301 votes by polling 12,999 votes compared to Baru’s 4,698 votes.

This was an over 12-fold increase compared to his slim 676 majority in 2008.

Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang said the impressive jump was due to Hasbi’s commitment in serving the people during his first term.

“Now people in Limbang are aware that they need BN and its representatives to do the hard work and continue to bring development here,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“We are very happy the people in Batu Danau are very supportive of Barisan Nasional.”

He said the people are looking forward to BN’s development plans, so that the standard of living in the constituency, which encompasses the state seats of Batu Danau and Bukit Kota, would be uplifted.

Paulus added that he would continue to work closely with Hasbi and Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail to serve the people.

A total of 17,912 or 73.8 per cent of the 24,278 registered voters in the constituency cast their votes on Sunday.

This was an increase compared to the 12,380 or 60.94 per cent of the 20,315 registered voters who cast their ballots in 2008.

Over 45 per cent of Limbang’s voters are aged 40 to 59.
