Langkawi still needs BN to continue boosting tourism industry

-

LANGKAWI: The decision of the people of Langkawi in returning Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the 13th General Election (GE13) on Sunday is an indication they want continuity in development, especially the tourism industry.

BN candidate for Langkawi parliamentary seat Datuk Nawawi Ahmad obtained 21,047 votes to overcome his opponent from Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) Datuk Ahmad Abdullah who polled 9,546 votes and independent candidate Marina Hussein who received 180 votes for a 11,681-vote majority

For the Ayer Hangat state seat, incumbent Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid beat Zubir Ahmad of PAS with a majority 5,311 votes.

In the Kuah state seat, new face Nor Saidi Nanyan of BN won the seat with 10,263 votes, defeating PKR candidate Datuk Ahmad Kassim who collected 3,892 votes, and independent candidate Zaflee Pakwanteh who received 117 votes by a majority of 6,371 votes.

Nor Saidi, 45, who is also Langkawi Umno Youth chief, said the victory proved the people wanted the leadership of BN candidates to continue to fulfill the needs of the people.

“The victory also means there is heavier responsibility for me to shoulder as a leader of the people. I am moved and did not expect the win in GE13 when various allegations were hurled at me,” he said, commenting on personal attacks during the general election.

He said the people had exercised wisdom in selecting competent candidates. — Bernama
