Raja of Perlis wants people to strengthen unity after GE

-

KANGAR: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail wants the people to reunite and forget their political differences after the 13th General Election.

He said they must also forget personal interests as it could affect harmony.

“I am fed-up with this matter (self-interests) during each general election,” he said in his speech at an oath-taking ceremony for the new Perlis menteri besar, Azlan Man at Istana Arau yesterday.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the situation had worsened through the dissemination of false reports which were created to benefit certain quarters.

Those who were entrusted to become leaders must be sincere in carrying out their duties, and not have ulterior motives, he added.

He hoped that Azlan, 55, who is also state assemblyman for Pauh, would carry out his duties without fear of certain challenges.

“I also urge elected representatives, government officers and the people to give support to the new menteri besar. If one has an opinion, let it be in the interest of the nation, state and people,” he said.

The Raja of Perlis hoped the issue that only a senior politician should be appointed menteri besar did not arise because it had been decided at federal level.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said he had consented to the suggestion of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Monday, that Azlan be appointed Perlis menteri besar. — Bernama
