PWPM raises RM1,000 for disabled of Piasau Camp
MIRI: Miri Petroleum Ladies Association ( PWPM) has raised RM987 from its charity Bake Sale at the Sarawak Shell Berhad in Lutong yesterday.
PWPM’s president Charito Paulino said she was pleased with the response adding that the proceeds, together with what’s in their ‘coin collection’ box, will be used to purchase goods to be donated to the community-based rehabilitation ( PDK) centre for disabled persons at Piasau Camp.
“We are very happy with the response from Shell staff towards our Bake Sale and one parent, when knowing that we are going to donate the proceeds to PDK, even donated RM100 to be given to PDK.
“However, we are not giving them cash, but later will buy what they requested,” Charito told The Borneo Post.
Recently, association members had learned from the residents of PDK Lutong on how to make baskets using recycled newspaper. In return, PWPM will share their knowledge with the residents on how to make other craft.
Charito added that charity projects were among the activities to assist local communities in need.
On June 23, the members will also take part in the 10th edition of the International Dance for Humanity ( IDFH) an annual charity project of the Miri Chapter of the Malaysian Red Crescent.
“Our immediate activities are this Monday ( May 13), when we will celebrate Mother’s Day. We will have potluck and our members are encouraged to bring their friends to join in the celebration,” Charito said.
To add to the merriment to the event, she urged members to dress in the International Mothers’ Day colours of Blue and White, or a mixture of both.
Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March or May. It complements Father’s Day, a similar celebration honouring fathers.
PWPM, with over 80 members, is a platform to promote global peace and harmony.
The members come from 14 countries namely Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Nigeria, Canada, Australia, United States, Scotland ( United Kingdom), Spain, Netherland, France, India, China and Japan.
