PUTRAJAYA: Parties disputing the result of 13th General Election (GE13) can file a petition 21 days after the result is gazetted, according to the Attorney General’s Chambers yesterday.

Deputy Solicitor- General II, Datuk Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah said the High Court must complete hearing of the petition six months after it was filed while appeal to the Federal Court must also be completed in the same period.

“As far as we are concerned, we will handle the election petition when it is filed,” said Tun Abdul Majid at a press conference in the lobby of the Attorney General’s Chambers here.

Commenting on other issues, he said there were reports about incidents in several places where voters could not vote when prevented by certain parties.

The Attorney General ’ s Chambers also received complaints about Election Commission ( EC) of ficers on duty on polling day for allegedly committing offences.

Abdul Majid said the complaints are still under police investigation.

“Most of the police reports received were associated with indelible ink which some claimed can be easily washed off.”

There was also a report that a political party observer was ordered to leave by an EC officer for 30 minutes after the voting period ended and before the counting of ballots.

Two people will be charged in Seremban magistrates’ court tomorrow for hurting a person in front of the operation room of a political party in Sikamat, Seremban. — Bernama
