Over RM2M in business tithe to TBS

KUCHING: Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia ( Bank Rakyat) contribute­d RM2,023,631 in business tithe to Tabung Baitumal Sarawak ( TBS) for the financial year 2012 yesterday, an increase of 4.5 per cent when compared to RM1,936,249 the year before.

The bank has set aside a total of RM41 million for its business tithe following a profit of RM2.11 billion last year.

A member of Bank Rakyat’s Board of Directors, Dato Mangsor Saad, handed over the tithe to Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.

Also present were Bank Rakyat Sarawak chief Azman Abdul Aziz and assistant general manager ( Branch Operations) Nazaruddin Zainal Abidin.

Naili and State Islamic Council chairman Datu Putit Matzen witnessed the mock- cheque presentati­on.

“The business tithe is paid based on Bank Rakyat’s business operations in 14 branches in the state,” said Bank Rakyat in a press statement.

The branches are at Satok, Simpang Tiga, Matang Jaya and Kota Padawan in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, Permyjaya ( Miri) and Limbang.

“It is hoped that this commendabl­e effort could help the state government to channel aid to those in need, apart from expanding the Islamic Syiar in the country,” it added.
