Youth acquitted of car theft charge

KUCHING: A youth was discharged and acquitted from a charge of car theft yesterday.

Magistrate Portia Tham freed Nusfadzli Derahman, 21, from Kampung Bintawa Ulu, from the offence after hearing the statement under oath provided by the complainan­t.

Nusfadzli was accused of committing the offence at Kampung Tanah Hitam in Lundu around 8.40pm on March 23 this year.

A Perodua Viva was reported missing by its owner at Batu Kawa MJC on Feb 2 this year.

Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine.

Meanwhile, a 42-year- old man from Kampung Semariang Batu was placed on a seven-day remand to facilitate a probe into an incest allegation involving him and his underage niece.

The suspect allegedly committed the incest at his stepmother’s house at a village in Petra Jaya.

The girl, who is now four months pregnant, made the confession to the police when she was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment after lodging a police report against the suspect.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum 20 years in jail and whipping.

The suspect’s remand order will expire on May 15.
