‘Increase in seats won proof of Red Wave success’
KOTA BAHARU: The increase in Barisan Nasional’s ( BN) parliamentary and state seats in Kelantan in the 13th General Election (GE13) is a reflection of the success of the ‘Red Wave’ slogan which the coalition launched in the state.
The slogan is also an indication of the people’s desire to change, and the failure of the PAS-ruled Kelantan Government to develop the state since it came to power in 1990.
In GE13, Kelantan BN won five parliamentary and 12 state seats, as compared to only two parliamentary and six state seats in GE12.
Kelantan BN chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said people in the state wanted changes and were confident of BN’s efforts to develop the state and look after their welfare.
“The slogan is still relevant and this will continue, based on the rather substantial support towards BN in GE13,” he said.
He said a BN post-mortem in the preliminary stage found the support of outside voters who returned home to vote, had changed the scenario which initially sided with BN.
“They were actually pivotal to BN’s success. However, they were still not on BN’s side despite the numerous effort to woo them,” he said. Mustapa, who won in the Jeli parliamentary and Air Lanas state seats, conceded that BN had not done enough to get the support of the outside voters, especially youths.
“Maybe, the outside voters did not get enough information as they were actually not well-versed with the goings- on in Kelantan. BN must do something to change the situation in the coming general election,” he said. — Bernama
