Harping about right to recruit members in schools
SIBU: Sarawak Taekwondo Associat ion ( STA/ WTF) deputy president Dato Lau Keung Chai is harping on the rights of taekwondo bodies to recruit members in schools.
He reiterated that only three taekwondo clubs here affiliated to Taekwondo Malaysia (STA/ TM/WTF) were authorised to use the WTF logo to recruit members.
He named the three clubs as Rejang Taekwondo Club (RTC), Sri Sibu Taekwondo Club (Sri Sibu) and Bumi Kenyalang Taekwondo Kelab ( KTBK).
All other clubs and personnel using the WTF logo in recruitment drives were doing so without legal standing, he insisted, warning them of legal action.
Lau said WTF secretary general Jean-Marie Ayer had, in a letter (dated Jan 16 2013) to TM President Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, confirmed that they recognized TM as the only association in Malaysia authorized to represent itself as a member of WTF.
“It also recognises TM as the only association in Malaysia authorised to register athletes to represent Malaysia at the international level, including but only limited to all WTFpromoted championships and Olympic qualifiers.”
Lau reminded school authorities to stop individuals who could be out to manipulate the situation and continue to misuse the WTF logo to recruit taekwondo students.
It is bel ieved that two secondary schools in Sibu and one in Sarikei are still allowing these unauthorised personnel to enter their schools to recruit students.
“The whole issue here is that i f the exponents, somehow unwittingly joined the taekwondo body that was not affiliated to STA, then they will be deprived of the golden opportunity to represent the state or the country in other taekwondo championships sanctioned by STA/ TM,” he said.
Lau said they wanted the best of the best taekwondo exponents to be picked, trained and groomed to help the country retain honours in big tournaments.
“We sympathise with those exponents students who might have the talents, yet will be unable to represent the country because they did not join the taekwondo clubs affiliated to STA,” he added.
