As Raymond Lam threatens split, Karena denies straying

HONG KONG: Singeractor Raymond Lam, 33, has threatened to split up with teenage actress Karena Ng after paparazzi claimed that she had spent a night at the apartment of a male friend.

Oriental Daily has reported that Raymond, who has been busy on a fi lm project in mainland China since March, issued the threat after paparazzi showed him photos of Karena with magazine editor Jimmy Yu.

Since February, Raymond and Karena have been under intense media scrutiny after announcing that they are an item.

Karena, 19, is known as a party animal. She is often spotted at bars and nightclubs.

Previously, she had been linked with a string of wealthy men. Among them were Howard Lam, and Derek Lim, son of former Miss Hong Kong Ellen Wong.

Karena had dumped Derek to date Raymond. Back then, the tabloids had reported that Derek wept after being unceremoniously jettisoned.

Raymond and Karena became intimate confidants after costarring in the laugh- out-loud movie Love Is...Pyjamas.

However, the relationship is unravelling, fi gure the tabloids, pointing to Karena’s hard partying now that Raymond is busy in the “Chinese Hollywood” Hengdian.

The paparazzi has such vivid imagination…I was only spending time with some friends, I’m not sure what there is to write about. I knew I was being followed, but I didn’t know it would be reported in such a manner.

Last week, paparazzi spotted Karena with a Stephen Huynh lookalike. He turned out to be Jimmy Yu.

Immediately after a function, Karena changed into jeans to meet up with friends, including Jimmy. After what seemed like a birthday celebration dinner, Karena and her friends went to a karaoke joint and lingered on until 3am.

Later, Karena had apparently spent the night at Jimmy’s apartment.

When the paparazzi approached Raymond, initially, he pushed the party photos away and snapped, “Don’t make things up, she’s only working for him!” Raymond also reassured reporters that he has knowledge about Karena’s whereabouts and that he knows all of her friends.

Responding to the publication of the photos, Karena said: “The paparazzi has such vivid imagination…I was only spending time with some friends, I’m not sure what there is to write about. I knew I was being followed, but I didn’t know it would be reported in such a manner.”
