Calls for Nanta to be made a minister

-

KAPIT: Supporters of four-term Kapit Member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi have called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to make him a minister.

One of those who made the call, Ambrose Abong Bugek from Song District said this is because Nanta is extremely popular with the electorate as evidenced by his trouncing of Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate Ramli Malaka.

Nanta received 13,446 votes against Ramli’s 3,715 votes for a majority of 9,731.

In the 2004 and 2008 parliamentary elections, Nanta won the seat uncontested, while in 1999 he defeated independent Richard Nujong Abit by polling 12,157 against Richard’s 1,141 votes for a majority of 11,016.

“Datuk Alexander should hold a ministerial post in the soon to be announced federal cabinet to expedite development, in particular basic infrastructure and amenities, in this rural constituency so that in the near future Kapit would be on par with the better developed urban centres,” said Ambrose.

“Datuk Alexander is a quality politician who has the trust and confidence of the people. He walks the talk and delivers. The people have their trust in him as their leader, to be able to influence Putrajaya to implement development programmes in this constituency.”

In total 66.7 per cent of Kapit’s 26,195 registered voters cast their votes on Sunday.
