Aiming to be longest philately in Malaysia Book of Records
MIRI: Pustaka Miri, Miri City Council ( MCC) together with antique and philatelic collector Lucas Johnny are ready to enter the Malaysia Book of Records ( MBR) by coming up with the longest philately of over 300m.
The feat to commemorate the 8th Miri City Day will take place at Miri Civic Centre on May 25.
Lucas said after achieving it, they want to double the record by inviting members of the public to join by sending their collections to Pustaka Miri.
“Even my own collection is enough to set the record. However we the organisers want Mirians to share the joy of creating the record,” Lucas said at Pustaka Miri where he is holding the Philately Exhibition from May 6 to 31.
Certificates of appreciation will be given to eligible participants.
The organisers said the philately collections will be insured and guarded at all times.
Those with collections of postage stamps, first day covers and postcards are encouraged to contact Pustaka Miri at 085422525 ( Mohd Khadzrie or Abd Aziz Kassim) or MCC at 085424984 ( Muhd Nurhisham).
Communications and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin is expected to officiate at the event, together with Kuching City South Mayor Lawrence Lai and chairman of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s board of management, Tan Sri Hamid Bugo.
The organisers aim to commemorate the 8th Miri City Day with the record as well as provide an opportunity for philatelists in and around the city to converge.
The event will encourage the interesting hobby of philately, especially among the younger generation.
Pustaka Miri was one of the organisers of the Largest Beads Exhibition back in 2003.
MCC had organised and set several national records since the inception of Miri City in 2005. One record was set in 2007, five in 2010 and another two in 2012.
