Children of SCCS and KCH invited to food fest

KUCHING: Organisers of the Damai Ethnic Food Fest 2013 is inviting children from the Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) and Kuching Children’s Home ( KCH) to join the event at Damai Beach Resort this weekend.

This is to bring cheer and to show them that society cares for them, said organising committee chairman Zulkifli Othman at a press conference held at Damai Beach Resort Kuching sales office yesterday.

The event will held from 10am to 6pm with ongoing beach games and beach activities for the whole day.

Zulkifli, who is also the general manager of Damai Beach Resort, said due to popular demand, there will also be a children colouring contest.

On top of that, other interestin­g activities for children include a singing session and beach games.

The side events aim to provide a good family outing for visitors.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who is also the chairman of Sarawak Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n, will officiate at the event.

Response towards the sale of food coupons for the event has been encouragin­g and more are expected to be sold at the resort on the actual day.

“We have sold a lot of food coupons and many from the corporate sector are supporting us,” he said.

The event is jointly organised by Damai Beach Resort, village folks from nearby Kampung Santubong, Kampung Buntal and Kampung Sungai Lumut with the full support from Kuching’s popular food operators.

SEDC-owned hotels namely Grand Margherita Hotel, Riverside Majestic Hotel and Sarawak Cultural Village are also supporting the event and will be offering their popular signature dishes at hawker prices.

Visitors to the fest will also be in for a cultural treat as students from Unimas Silat Seni Tari group will be demonstrat­ing their silat skills.

Other traditiona­l dances and music performanc­es will also be put up as well as singing and cooking competitio­ns that offer cash prizes.

Even a beach fishing competitio­n will be held.

About 40 stalls will be set up to sell popular food and delicacies while the other non-food stalls will be selling clothes, souvenir items and handicraft items.

Visitors are reminded to park their vehicles properly and to cooperate with the relevant personnel on duty.

An alternativ­e parking space at Damai Golf and Country Club is available with shuttle service provided to Damai Beach Resort.
