Borneo Jazz Festival expected to draw the crowds this weekend

MIRI: Fifteen vendors have confi rmed their participat­ion in the Borneo Jazz Festival to be held at Parkcity Everly Hotel here this weekend.

According to the person in charge of the vendors, Alyson Richard, many vendors, especially hoteliers, are making a return this year, including Marriot Resort and Spa as well as Parkcity Everly Bintulu.

“Food lovers get to savour the taste of Penang as the Penang Street Café is coming back for the second time this year,” he told The Borneo Post.

According to him, among delicacies on sale during the two-day festival are satay, desserts, fresh fruits and shawarma.

There will also be merchandis­e stalls selling ethnic handicraft, accessorie­s, silver and white gold accessorie­s as well as a stall offering temporary tattoo services.

“One of the merchandis­e stalls will be doing freehand drawing and we expect the artist operating this stall to draw the interest of art enthusiast­s coming to the festival that day,” he said.

Eight award winning bands from around the world will take part in the festival which is being held for the eighth time. There will be two bands from the United States, one each from Sweden, Germany, Canada, Australia, one comprising big names from Asia and a Malaysian band from Sarawak.

Their music ranges from blues, fusion, ethno jazz as well as capella jazz with a rendition of Lion King’s ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’.
