Aussies keen to make Malaysia regional hub for companies
MELBOURNE: There is growing interest among Australian companies to use Malaysia as a regional hub and gateway to Asia, the Victorian president of the Australia Malaysia Business Council (AMBC), Joe Perri said.
He said since the Malaysia Australia Free Trade Agreement came into effect in January this year, there was an immense level of interest in doing business in Malaysia and the region.
“What we are seeing as a business council, is, Australian companies doing their homework and research.
“They want to take advantage of the opportunities and incentives of ‘Australia in the Asian’ strategy promoted by the Australian government,” he added.
Perri told an AMBC lunch hosted by leading accounting firm Pitcher Partners, that successful companies were those that had a fully integrated approach when venturing overseas.
He said AMBC had the expertise and experience to help Australian companies in research and understanding of the Malaysia market and beyond.
Perri said the newly compiled AMBC Members Business Directory contained valuable information on companies and businesses already established in Malaysia.
He also said the Malaysian Consul General here, Dr Mohd Rameez Yahaya, had worked hard to build links with the Australian business community.
Mohd Rameez, who briefed the guests on the Malaysian General Election (GE13) results, said with the return to power of the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, business would proceed with added confidence in the country. — Bernama
