Home alone widow dies in shop house

KUCHING: The nude body of a widow was discovered yesterday in the bedroom of a shop house unit at the Batu Kawah New Township.

The deceased, aged 47, was found around 3.30pm after her fatherin-law alerted the management of the commercial centre to check on her when he failed to contact her.

According to sources, the fatherin-law had decided to visit her out of worry after failing to contact her since Wednesday, but arrived to find her unit on the second floor locked.

He then notified the management of the commercial centre of his concern, prompting a team to use a skylift to peer into the unit from the front window.

After spotting the nude body of the deceased sprawled on her bed, the management immediately alerted the police, who found no signs of foul play in the death.

The body of the widow, who lived alone following her husband’s passing a year ago, was subsequently sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

In a separate case, a 34-year- old man was found hanging from a tree at his farm in Telaga Air, Matang yesterday afternoon. The man was found lifeless around 4pm by family members, who immediately reported the matter to police.

Sources disclosed that the deceased, whose house was located not far from his farm, was found hanging from the neck with a rope tied to a tree branch.

Police classified the incident as sudden death and sent the body to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem.
