BN candidate for Balingian not outsider — Talip

-

KUCHING: Barisan Nasional’s ( BN) candidate for the Balingian byelection will be from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) and not an outsider.

This was pointed out by PBB vicepresident Datuk Talip Zulpilip, who ruled out the speculation that BN will field a candidate who is not from PBB.

“There is no issue of somebody from outside PBB to stand for BN in Balingian by-election,” said Talip.

He however refused to talk more on the candidate, who will be revealed and announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Mukah tomorrow.

Talip, who is Assistant Tourism Minister, added that what was important now was that the candidate must be able to serve the people in the area with dedication and ensure that Balingian will continue to develop under BN.

“What is important for us now is to work together to retain the seat and to ensure that Balingian is still a BN territory … this is more important,” said Talip.

Nomination for the by- election will be on March 17 while polling will be on March 29.

The Balingian seat fell vacant following the resignation of incumbent Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud on Feb 28 to take up his appointment as the state’s seventh Yang di-Pertua Negeri on March 1.
