Probe into man’s death to be completed within a month, says police chief

SIBU: Police investigation into a Feb 6 incident in which a man was apparently crushed to death by a lorry will take a few more weeks to complete.

Police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi said the probe into the death of Soo Chong Yii would be completed within a month from now when he met members of Soo’s family and their lawyer Yap Hoi Liong at police headquarters here yesterday.

At the meeting, they provided information which might be helpful to the police in their investigation.

The information includes four pictures, one of which showed a hard object beside Soo’s body at the gate.

Soo, 27, was said to have been crushed by his lorry when he was opening the gate of a shop owned by his employer in Alan Road in the early hours of Feb 6.

According to Yap yesterday, the police had yet to receive the chemist and medical report on the incident.

He said Soo had driven the lorry to a petrol station in Brooke Drive to buy petrol before heading to the shop where the tragedy happened.

He also said Soo’s family would not believe that the tragedy was an accident.

“And, they believe Soo was not alone when the tragedy struck,” he added.

Yap,whoisDudongassemblyman, suggested that the police view the clips from the CCTV camera installed at the petrol station where Soo had earlier bought three tonnes of petrol.

A post-mortem showed that Soo had died of serious injury to the back of his head.

His family had earlier told the police that cash amounting to RM30,000 was missing from Soo’s body.
