Use face masks during dry spell, says Miri Hospital director
MIRI: People with respiratory problems have been advised to use face masks during the current dry weather.
Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong said more cases of respiratory problems are recorded during dry spells because the circulation of viruses in the air tends to be more active.
He said those with low antibodies, the young and those with lung problems, are particularly susceptible to infections.

good, and if you are sick stay at home to reduce exposure,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
Dr Wong said common respiratory problems during dry spells include coughing and asthma.
He called on the public to be alert and to go to the polyclinic in Tudan or here for advice and treatment.
Meanwhile, a check at a private clinic found the number of patients seeking treatment for coughs and asthma had doubled during this dry spell.
Dr Michael Teo meanwhile said asthma problems were on the rise, especially among babies and senior citizens.
He reminded those with heart ailments to stay indoors to avoid exposure to the hot and hazy weather.
“It is also better for those with asthma problems to stay indoors and avoid inhaling smoke from the bush fires occurring now,” he said.
