-

SARATOK: The Barisan Nasional ( BN) government is disbursing the 1Malaysia Peoples’ Aid ( BR1M) to eligible recipients as it knows the financial burden faced by the low income group.

Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan who is also Saratok MP said this when he congratulated his constituents for giving the mandate to BN to continue looking after them.

His text- of-speech was read by a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Peter Howell Jilan when officiating at the BR1M 3.0 distribution at Dewan Sri Krian here last week.

Mawan announced that the first batch of BR1M recipients for Saratok comprised 2,000 singles who would be receiving RM300 each; 123 heads of household ( RM450 each), 2,000 heads of households ( RM650 each) and 1,322 elderly ones (RM650 each).

He said the government had decided to distribute the aid in phases.

“BR1M is a sincere gift from the government of Malaysia to the people. The special gift started with the distribution of school aid of RM100 to students. Form 6 students and tertiary students were also given book vouchers of RM250 each,” he said.

“We hope the aid could help reduce the burden resulting from the high cost of living and price hikes of some necessary items. The BR1M could also help spur the economy when people spend the money,” he added.

BR1M 3.0 2014 was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at SMK Aminuddin Baki in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 24.

Singles above 21 years old with monthly salary below RM2,000 would be getting RM300 each; households with monthly income of RM3,000 to RM4,000 would be getting RM450 each; households with monthly income below RM3,000 ( RM650 each) and singles above 60 years old with monthly income below RM4,000 (RM650).

All BR1M recipients will be insured for RM30,000 under iBR1M insurance paid for by the RM50 deducted from each payment.

The BN government allocated RM4.6 billion for BR1M 3.0 to benefit around 7.9 million households this year.

Also present at the distribution of BR1M 3.0 were Saratok District Officer Mohd Ikmal Abdullah and community leaders including Pemanca Edward Gella Baul, Pemanca Sahari Gani and Pemanca Tan Yok Ngee.
