MAHB given two weeks to submit report on KLIA2

-

THE Public Accounts Committee ( PAC) has given Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd ( MAHB) two weeks to submit a full report on the planning, implementation and cost of the KLIA2 project.

PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said construction of the new low- cost carrier terminal is on schedule and the airport is almost fully completed physically, but the committee still wants further details on the software and human resources needed for its grand opening.

“The Transport Ministry is giving its commitment and is confident that the KLIA2’s opening date for May 2 can be achieved,” he told the media after visiting the airport here yesterday.

He also expressed hope that MAHB, the airport operator, would explain why the cost of building the KLIA2 has ballooned to RM4 billion from its initial cost of about RM1.8 billion and why its completion date has been delayed by almost two years.

MAHB Managing Director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid said the airport is at the third stage of operational readiness and airport transfer (ORAT) while the fourth and final stage is expected to begin by month- end. “Contractors have also got approvals from the Fire and Rescue Department for people to get in there and do the work,” he said, adding that the contractors have given their assurance that the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) would be given before May 2.

Deputy minister of transport Datuk Aziz Kaprawi said most of the tenants have started to move into KLIA2 to make their renovations.

“These include Malindo Air who were also present to put their staff in KLIA2 to familiarise themselves with the system,” he said. Asked whether AirAsia has started to do the same, Bashir Ahmad said: “They have said that they will move here and will do the work (renovation), and they are most welcome to do so.” — Bernama
