Housewife shares bitter experience

-

KUCHING: A housewife wishes to advise consumers not to throw away their shopping receipts until they are satisfied that all the goods they purchased are in good condition.

In an incident recently, she was shocked when she came across ‘rotten’ cheese when she wanted to eat it not long after buying it from a supermarket here.

According to her, she had gone to the supermarket to buy groceries including a packet of cheese - with an expiry date in August this year.

“Assuming that the cheese was safe to be eaten since the expiry date is still a long way to go, I did not bother to check its content. After making payment at the counter, and as usual I threw away my purchase receipts after I went out of the supermarket.

“When at home, I opened up the packaging and was very surprised to see the cheese covered with black fungus. It looked so disgusting and I feel that was a waste of money,” she said.

As she had no proof of purchase, she said she could not ask for refund or replacement or lodge a complaint.

Due to this bitter experience, she said she is obliged to tell the public to learn a lesson from her.

“I do not want others to face the same thing as I did, that is why I want to highlight this to the public. Do keep your receipts always after making purchase just in case you need them for proof,” she advised.
