and 80 tonnes per month.
“We encourage such activities to generate our economy in food-based industry,” he told reporters after visiting Summer Pacific factory at Upper Lanang Road here yesterday.
He was accompanied by a political secretary to the chief minister Abu Seman Jahwie, Daro assemblyman Dr Murni Suhaili and Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee.
Julaihi, who is also the assistant minister of rural development, said bee farming and honey manufacturing were unique activities in this country.
“Honey products we get are mostly imported. But this one is our local product. The bees are reared in a clean and natural environment in our tropical rainforests,” he noted.
He said the quality of honey produced was assured as raw honey collected was tested in Germany before it was processed.
“The test ensures the honey is pure and not contaminated,” he said.
According to a director of Summer Pacific, Desmond Cheng, the 30,000-hectare bee farm is located in Samarakan in Bintulu Division.
He said among its honey products were the Raja Borneo Honey, Royal B and Royal Jelly.
The products, he said, were exported mainly to China where demand was huge.
