Sibu and Friendship Cities exhibition from May 21 to 29

SIBU: A trade exhibition dubbed `Sibu and Friendship Cities’ will be held at the Civic Centre here from May 21 to 29 to mark the 40th anniversar­y of diplomatic relationsh­ip between Malaysia and China.

The exhibition organised by Sibu Municipal Council is also aimed at bolstering inbound tourism.

Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King told a press conference yesterday that the exhibition was timely because this year was Visit Malaysia Year and Visit Sarawak Year.

Collaborat­ing with the council in staging the exhibition are Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), Sarawak China Trades Importers and Exporters Associatio­n, Sibu Hardware Importers Associatio­n, Sibu Drug Merchants’ Associatio­n, and Sarawak Stationers and Bookseller­s Associatio­n.

“There will be 68 booths manned by locals and foreigners,” Tiong said, adding that the exhibition hours were from 2pm to 10.30pm.

Tour packages, handicraft­s, health care products, clothes, stationery, food and education packages are among the exhibits.

Tiong said there would be 24 food and drink stalls.

With Tiong at the press conference yesterday were his deputy Dato Andrew Wong, council secretary Hii Chang Kee, assistant secretary ( public relation) Teng Meng Min, SCCCI president Hu Yu Siong and councillor So Teck Kee.
