10th Hornbill Walk tomorrow expects good response

-

MIRI: The 10th Hornbill Walk at Piasau Camp tomorrow is expecting to see a big crowd including community leaders and members of nongovernmental organisations ( NGOs).

Piasau Camp Miri Nature Park Society (PCMNPS) headed by Datuk Sebastian Ting, who is also the coordinator of the event, is determined to make the walk a special one, to continue its efforts of supporting the government’s decision to turn the camp into a nature reserve.

“We want this walk, the 10th in the series to be a special one. Perhaps, we could have some surprises during the walk,” Ting told The Borneo Post yesterday.

The invitation to community leaders and members of NGOs is part of the society’s efforts to drum up support for the nature reserve.

The walk too is part of the activities organised by PCMNPS this year, to create greater awareness and appreciation for a clean environment and the conservation of the flora and fauna, especially at Piasau Camp.

The walk with the best response of over 500 people was on Sept 29 last year, held in memory of the mother hornbill called Faridah, who was killed by poachers at Piasau Garden on Sept 26.

Ting urged Mirians and visitors to come in full force to join the walk.

Admission is free. The starting point is at the former Tenby International School and it will start at 4.30pm. Besides the walk, there will also be sale of merchandise including T-shirts, to raise funds for the various activities to be held by PCMNPS.

Among other activities organised by the society were public talks on hornbills, colouring contests and exhibitions and the current logo design competition which is open to members of the public.

The closing date for the logo design competition is tomorrow at 3pm.
