Two armed robberies in a day where vehicles being used to corner victims

KUCHING: A machine operator lodged a police report after he was robbed early yesterday morning by two armed men in Petra Jaya.

The 22-year-old said the incident happened around 4.30pm at Jalan Bako when a Proton Waja car overtook his Perodua Kancil and brought him to a halt by blocking the road in front.

The two men, who had their faces concealed with handkerchi­efs, approached his vehicle and demanded him to come out pointing a knife at his stomach.

According to the operator, the men proceeded to go through his pockets and removed his mobile phone and wallet, which had about RM40 inside, before running back to their car and speeding off.

Unhurt, he then made his way to Gita police station where he made a report.

In an unrelated case, armed robbers made off with two lorry batteries after forcing a lorry driver to stop.

The 40-year- old driver was making his way towards Kampung Pasir Pandak around 6.30am when he came across two men, who used their motorcycle to block the road.

As soon as he stopped his lorry, the two men rushed up to him and forced him to exit by threatenin­g him with a machete.

One of the robbers then got into the lorry and drove it about 200 metres away, where he and his accomplice then removed two of its batteries before making their escape.

A police report of the incident has been lodged and the case is being investigat­ed.
