SainsKu continues to aim for excellence — Principal
KUCHING: Sekolah Menengah Sains ( SainsKu) recorded a slight drop in its PMR and SPM 2013 performance, but still maintaining an average school grade (GPA) of below 2.0.
Principal Salbiah Seman thus urged students sitting for both public examinations this year to study hard to achieve excellent results.
“For PMR, the GPS dropped from 1.07 in 2012 to 1.09 in 2013. However, the percentage of A’s increased from 67 per cent in 2012 to 70 per cent in 2013,” she said in her speech at the school’s Excellent Awards 2014 ceremony yesterday.
SM Sains parent- teacher association ( PTA) advisor Puan Sri Dato Jamilah Anu, who is the wife of the chief minister, was present to present the awards to the high achievers.
“For the last SPM, SainsKu achieved a GPS of 1.81, compared to 1.53 in 2012,” said Salbiah.
SainsKu students, she added, does not only focus on academic excellence, but were also actively involved in co- curriculum activities.
“Up until today, our students have done extremely well in the district, state, national and international levels.”
Among their achievements included top three positions in the national-level men and female basketball team competitions, state and zone champions for the cricket team, while its Research and Development Club recently won the state-level Intellectual Property and Innovation Competition and would be representing the state at the national-level competition later this year.
Salbiah said SainsKu was clear on its vision and mission to deliver the best education to groom world-class leaders.
“With the rapid transformation of national education, SainsKu through ‘ Program Sekolah Amanah’ precedes 21st century learning.”
Salbiah urged students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to continue to improve their performance and to work together to grow and develop potentials in order to achieve the school’s mission and vision.
Fifty- five students who obtained 8A’s in PMR 2013 and 18 students scoring straight A’s in SPM 2013 received awards as recognition and appreciation for their excellent performance at the ceremony yesterday.
Melvin Simon and Muhammad Haziq Sudin, who both obtained 8A+ and 1A in SPM 2013, were honoured with the ‘Overall Best Academic Students 2013’ award.
The special ‘ Tokoh Pelajar Contoh Keseluruhan’ Award 2014 that recognised student’s achievements in academic, cocurriculum, leadership and well-being for lower secondary went to Mohd Daniel Haikal and Muhammad Hafizi Mohamad Hairy for upper secondary.
