KUCHING: A special one- off aid presentation to disabled veteran servicemen will be held here on June 14.

Chairman of the state’s Malaysian Ex- servicemen Association, Spencer Birai said the monetary aid is derived from the 2013 Warriors Fund.

At the moment only 27 disabled veterans have registered with the association in the state.

Eighteen of them come from Kuching-Bau- Kota Samarahan area, three from Sri AmanSaratok and the rest (six) from Sarikei- Sibu-Mukah.

“The aid is meant to ease the financial burden of the veterans for their contributions and sacrifices in defending the nation. Many of them became unemployed after leaving the force due to the severity of their injuries,” Spencer said in a statement to the media yesterday.

He said the recipients were classified into four categories to determine their qualification for easier identification in the context of the aid presentation.

The categories are: Veterans injured during skirmishes with communists and other subversive elements including intrusion of areas within the country’s territories; veterans with permanent injury received while on duty apart from the category mentioned above; veterans who received permanent injury from accidents that occurred after leaving the force; and veterans with long chronic disease, bed ridden or with limited movement which occurred after their discharge from the force, including those with mental problems.

Those who qualified under any of these four categories can contact the administrative officer Garid Sunang at 082- 456634 for information and registration matters.
