100 expected at districtle­vel scout camp

MIRI: About 100 Scouts from five primary schools and five secondary schools in Miri will gather at Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang for the Miri District- Level Scout Camp.

The schools are Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, SMK Agama Miri, SMK Luak, SMK Baru, SMK Chung Hua, SK Pujut Corner, SK South, SK Agama, SK Merbau and SK Lutong.

According to the spokesman for the event, the camp will commence today and will end on Sunday (April 13).

Registrati­on for secondary schools will start at 1pm today while primary schools will only join the camp on Saturday morning.

Among the objectives of the annual camp are to promote scouting among school students as well as to provide a venue for them to get to know one another better and exchange their knowledge on scouting.

For the first time, the camp will also include single rope training (SRT) for junior scout members.

The highlight of the camp will be the campfire session which will be held on Saturday night.

Other camp activities include trekking, pioneering programme and knotting.

A group of students with special needs (OKU) will also participat­e in the camp.

The closing ceremony of the camp on Sunday is expected to be attended by Miri scout commission­er Masri Jaya.
