Petanque competitio­n still open for entries

BINTULU: Entries are still open for the Petanque Doubles Open competitio­n which will be held on April 12 and 13 in conjunctio­n with the ` Berambeh Bintulu’ programme at Bintulu Old Airport site.

The champion will receive RM400, trophy and medal while second and third place will get RM250 and RM150 respective­ly with trophy and medal each. Fourth place will walk away with RM100, trophy and medal. Consolatio­n prizes for the fifth to eight places.

The competitio­n is limited to 32 teams and the fee is RM40 per team.

The competitio­n is organised by RTM Bintulu and PEPSAR. SIBU: Tournament underdogs SMK Lanang edged Indah FC 21 in the third match of the Sibu Division Football League held at Prison Field over the last weekend.

SMK Lanang, a team of students and three teachers, displayed moments of brilliance before securing their come-from-behind victory.

Indah’s Perawi drew first blood when he rifled in a shot from close range in the 36th minute.

SMK Lanang, however, burst into life after the interval.

Daymond collected a pass before dribbling it past two defenders and scored from a tight angle in the 47th minute to equal the scoreline.

In the 58th minute, SMK L a n a n g ’ s Mo h d H a f i e z was on target to give them a 2-1 lead. Indah sensed an urgency and despite waves of attack, failed to penetrate the defence mounted by SMK Lanang.

In the other weekend match, Remaja FC and Busana FC played to a 1-1 draw in an explosive game which saw two yel low cards issued.

The match was heading for a scoreless draw before Remaja Mohd Fazli headed in a ball from close range in the 64th minute.

The Kanowit-based Busana FC team, through youngster Collins, equalized in the 85th minute to force a draw.

Meanwhile, the matches for the Division I will kick off on April 18 at Stadium Tun Zaidi. Nangka asemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee is expected to grace the championsh­ip at 4pm.

Rascom will lock horns with Singgah Selalu in the first match at 4.30pm, to be followed by the second match on April 19 between Rimba Hijau and TZ FC, also at 4.30pm.
