M’sia to meet S. Korea for fifth placing

-

ALOR SETAR: Malaysia may not have a smooth path for fifth placing in the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championship 2014 ( Suhadinata Cup) at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here, today after drawing South Korea.

Malaysia would be facing South Korea who defeated Hong Kong 3- 0 in their play off match yesterday.

South Korea were the defending champion but suffered a shocking 0- 3 defeat to lowly Thailand in their Group W quarterfinal match on Wednesday.

Malaysian junior head coach Zhou Kejian said playing South Korea would be tough because the team had undergone systematic training programmes.

“It’s a big challenge for Malaysian juniors. But for the individual events next week, we will consider listing fresh players to give them exposure. Like June Wei (Cheam), we will let him concentrate on the individual event which starts next week,” he told reporters here.

In yesterday’s match, Malaysia edged Taiwan 3- 1 with mixed doubles pair Tan Jinn Hwa/Goh Yea Ching delivering the first point by defeating Pan Tzu Chin/ Yang ming Tse 21-10, 21-19 before Lee Zii Jia added the second point after edging Chang En Chia 13-21, 21-16, 21-14.

Women’s singles player Lee Ying Ying won the winning point after Malaysia men’s double Tan Jinn hwa/Goh Sze Fei had lost to Lee Chia Han/ Wu Yuan Cheng 11- 21, 21- 23. Lee edged China’s Sung Shuo Yun 21-17,21-19 for the winning point. — Bernama
