Team Junior qualify for final of KGS Team Matchplay Championsh­ip

KUCHING: Team Junior became the first team to qualify for the final of this year’s KGS Team Matchplay Championsh­ip to be held at Sarawak Golf Club ( KGS), Petra Jaya on April 13.

Led and managed by Hoan Kee Hock, the team are a fi rst-timer to the annual event and this year, a total of 20 teams are vying for the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai challenge trophy.

Team Junior are represente­d by a line-up of young and upcoming golfers namely Aziel Teo Ken Yi, Samdrick Yeo, Immanuel David, Aaron Lau, Arthur Loh, Nasrul Iman, Bernard Yeo, Goh Thai Soon and David Philip who had partnered local golf aces such as Lee Kah Ming, Joseph Lau and Hoan Kee Hock himself.

Meeting Team Junior in this Sunday’s final is either Mafia Hukum or HGA team which will compete in the semi- final to be held tomorrow.

Apart from the challenge trophy, this year’s championsh­ip is offering a total of RM21,000 in prize money with the champion team to walk home RM12,000 richer and the bragging rights as the top team at KGS.

Int roduced in 19 9 8 , the championsh­ip is one of the most lucrative events in the local golfing scene and has never failed to attract the participat­ion of golfers all over.

Having rated his team’s chances of bagging their fi rst major title, Hoan had preferred to be modest and expressed confidence for his young golfers to gain valuable exposure and experience from the championsh­ip which started on March 1.
