Feb manufactur­ing sales up 16.1 per cent to RM53.5 bln

KUALA LUMPUR: The sales value for the manufactur­ing sector in February 2014 rose by 16.1 per cent ( RM7.4 billion) to RM53.5 billion from RM46.1 billion reported a year ago.

On month-on-month basis, sales value, however, decreased by 3.9 per cent (RM2.1 billion) compared with preceding month of RM55.6 billion, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia in its Monthly Manufactur­ing Statistics here yesterday.

“On a seasonally- adjusted month- on-month basis, the sales value in February 2014 increased by three per cent,” it said.

The department said total employees engaged in the manufactur­ing sector in February was 1.02 million persons, a decrease of 0.8 per cent compared with the preceding month.

Meanwhile, on a year- on-year basis, the number of employees increased by 0.4 per cent (4,556 persons) compared with 1.02 million persons in the same month last year.

The department said total employees in January 2014 has been revised positive 0.5 per cent year- on- On a month- on-month basis, salaries and wages paid in February 2014 decreased by four per cent to register RM2.76 billion, it said.

The total amount paid in February 2014 increased by 6.7 per cent (RM173.6 million) compared with the correspond­ing month of the previous year, it said.

It said salaries and wages paid in January 2014 had been revised positive 8.1 per cent yearon-year to record RM2.87 billion. — Bernama
