RTM targets 3 million viewers for each FIFA World Cup 2014 match
KUALA LUMPUR: Radio Televisyen Malaysia ( RTM) targets three million viewers to watch each match of the FIFA World Cup 2014 to be broadcast by the station's TV1, TV2 and TVi starting this Friday.
Broadcasting director-general, Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail said RTM had been given the rights to screen 35 matches, comprising 24 live telecasts and 11 delayed telecasts with high- definition broadcast throughout the football championship.
“We hope that three million viewers from more than six million households who depend on free television broadcast will be able to watch live the World Cup which has been eagerly awaited by football fans in Malaysia and elsewhere.
“We believe that RTM is able to broadcast more matches live this time compared to the last World Cup four years ago, which drew two million viewers for each match.”
Norhyati said this after the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between RTM and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd ( KTMB) to promote the ` Rio To Malaysia' programme in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup 2014, at Angkasapuri, here yesterday.
RTM will broadcast live the World Cup 2014 opening match between Brazil and Croatia over TV1 and TVi this Friday at 4am followed by the second match between Spain and the Netherlands on the same channels on Saturday at 3am.
