Free Autodesk software for all students — Idris Jusoh

PUTRAJAYA: All students and public schools can obtain the Autodesk software for free.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said there were stages needed to be followed to download and install the software, which was previously offered only to students of public higher learning institutio­ns.

“I urge all schools and their faculty members to take this opportunit­y to integrate Autodesk technology in their classrooms, as part of the pedagogy to build the future generation of innovators for the country,” he said at the launch of Autodesk Malaysia Design Competitio­n (AMDC) 2014 here yesterday.

Elaboratin­g on the matter at a press conference later, Autodesk Malaysia country manager C S Tan said the company would work with the Education Ministry to install the software in schools, while students could download the software on their computer for free at www. autodesk.com/ education/free-software.

He said the range of the software of fered included AutoCAD, 3ds Max, Maya and Inventor Profession­al which costs between RM30,000 and RM40,000.

“It is free for three years, as part of our corporate social responsibi­lity ( CSR), and it can still be downloaded for free after that, given that you are still a student,” he added.

On AMDC, Idris said it was aimed at cultivatin­g innovative minds and encourage competitio­n in the fields of creativity, and offered a great opportunit­y for students to showcase their globally-benchmarke­d talents.

Themed ‘ Go Beyond’, the competitio­n which is open to higher learning institutio­n students, offers up to RM50,000 in prizes and a chance to represent Malaysia at the Autodesk Panorama 2014 convention in Las Vegas, United States.

Earlier, Idris witnessed the presentati­on of University Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineerin­g Global Industry Par tners Schol a rships by Autodesk, Dell, Microsoft, IBM and CSC to its 11 high performing students, whereby the students were given an opportunit­y to undergo mentorship and internship in those organisati­ons.
