-

SIBU: Following its first screening for selected viewers at the King’s Theatre here last night, the film Abba, which depicts love and forgiveness, will be screened for the public from today onwards at Star Cineplex.

The Chinese film has English subtitles.

The film has been a hit in Taiwan since its release there three years ago.

Thenceforth, the film has grown in popularity in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Canada and France.

Hock Star Entertainment Industry Berhad’s executive director Wong Kai Lim told a press conference here yesterday afternoon that the film might be screened here over two weeks, depending on public response.

“Usually, a movie is screened here for about two weeks.

“But for Abba, it will probably stay longer. In Taiwan, the film was a hit for three months,” he said.

Wong said Abba was a very touching film, and assured viewers of getting their money’s worth watching it.

“It’s a documentary about real life. It will stand the test of time,” he said.

Basically, the film contains excerpts of the real life of its director, Lion Hung.

Hung’s father, a popular singer, abandoned his family - a wife and three sons - for another woman.

The building up of love and forgiveness between the two families is the gist of the film enriched by its theme song ‘Abba’.

This is Hung’s very first film production which took him four years to complete at a cost of about RM1.5 million.

Hung has been a producer of television programmes.
