Miri Hospital Blood Bank well stocked during Gawai
MIRI: Miri Hospital Blood Bank has been well able to meet the demand for blood during the festive season due to preparedness and proper planning.
Medical officer-in- charge Dr Manju Inder said all went well during the festive season when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.
“All this was made possible with the good cooperation from our staff and the blood donation drive mobile team.
“They worked hard to ensure sufficient supply to cater to any extra demand during the Gawai celebration and it paid off,” she acknowledged.
Dr Manju added walk-in donors also contributed a lot to the collection, thus assuring enough stock.
Everyday,
there
was
an average of 15 walk-in donors, she disclosed.
On a similar note, Dr Manju encouraged donors of all groups to donate their blood to replenish the supply of platelets.
The platelets, according to the doctor, were the product of blood processed in centrifuge machines.
“The platelets help in dengue cases, leukemia, bleeding disorder and so forth. The platelets last only for five days,” she elaborated.
Those who wish to donate may walk in to the blood bank anytime during office hours.
From Mondays to Thursdays, the blood bank is opened from 8.30am to 12 noon and from 2pm to 4pm and on Fridays, it is opened from 8.30am to 11am and 2.30pm to 4pm. It is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
