SERIAN: The Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Serian Chapter has been commended for organising the 8th state-level Bunan Gega Youth Jungle Camp.

In commending the chapter, MRC Sarawak branch chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, who is also the camp’s patron, said it was especially meaningful for the young participants to experience nature while out camping in the jungle.

“Many young people today do not have the opportunity to experience nature in the jungle and this meaningful camp will prove to be very memorable to the participants,” he said when launching the camp at Kampung Bunan Gega, Mongkos on Monday.

Among those present were MRC Serian Chapter chairman Dr Kiu Chiong Chin, quartermaster Leong Pit Wee, publicity chief Joseph Then and John Lam.

Dr Chan also extended his gratitude to MRC Serian Chapter for organising the camp in such a well- organised manner and in appreciation of their effort, he donated RM10,000 to subsidise their expenses for organising the camp and other activities.

Meanwhile, organising chairman Junerason Anyew said the camp’s venue provided participants with the opportunity to learn to treasure nature.

“It is full of bamboo and other vegetation that make it suitable for the camp’s theme, ‘Experience Nature’,” he remarked.

He thanked former members of MRC Serian Chapter who lent a helping hand in the camp.

“I hope that these helpful senior members would also encourage others to come forward for activities organised by MRC Serian Chapter,” said Junerason.

The Bunan Gega Youth Jungle Camp saw 132 participants from Betong Chapter (10), Kuching Chapter (9), Stampin Chapter (10), Sibu Chapter ( 8), Miri Chapter (14), SMK Tarat ( 3), SMK Sacred Heart ( 8), SMK Sibu Jaya ( 8), SMK St Thomas ( 8), SMK Balai Ringin ( 8), SMK Sibuyau ( 9), SMK Gedong ( 5), SMK Serian ( 8), SMK Tebakang ( 8), SMK Tebedu ( 8) and SMK Taee ( 8) joining the four- day, three-night camp to provide opportunity for youth members to meet members from other MRC chapters and exchange ideas.
