Marvel finally names ‘Ant-Man’ director
AFTER Edgar Wright’s last minute departure, followed by refusals from Adam McKay and others, producers at Marvel can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Peyton Reed has agreed to come on board as the director of ‘ AntMan’.
The drama lasted nearly two weeks, but after recovering from a number of setbacks and refusals, Marvel has finally found a filmmaker willing to take up the reins on ‘ Ant-Man’. Peyton Reed, whose previous films include ‘ Yes Man’ and ‘ The Break-Up’, will head up the film adaptation of the Marvel comics.
‘ Shaun of the Dead’ helmer Edgar Wright walked away from the project a few weeks ago, unwilling to accept script changes imposed by Disney and Marvel. Then, whether due to scheduling problems or reluctance to take on a project that likely already bears Wright’s signature, Adam McKay, Rawson Marshall Thurber and Ruben Fleischer all reportedly rebuffed Marvel’s advances.
Michael Douglas, who is in the cast of the feature, said that he was “very disappointed” by Edgar Wright’s departure.
The filmmaker had been attached to direct ‘ Ant-Man’ for eight years.
Though he declined to helm the project, ‘ Anchorman’ director Adam McKay ultimately agreed to lend a hand by rewriting part of the script.
‘ Ant-Man’ is scheduled to enter production this summer and will arrive in cinemas worldwide July 15, 2015. Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson make up the film’s star- studded cast. — Relaxnews
