Toshiba Medical Systems Corp establishe­s new subsidiary in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Toshiba Medical Systems Corporatio­n ( TMSC) has establishe­d Toshiba Medical Systems Malaysia Sdn Bhd ( TMSM), with the aim to participat­e actively in promoting medical tourism in this country.

In a statement, the Japanbased company said TMSM was a joint venture corporatio­n with its distributo­r in Malaysia, Abex Medical System Sdn Bhd, and would start business on June 12.

TMSC said a high economic growth rate of about five per cent or more is expected in Southeast Asia, and economic developmen­t would lead to an increase in population and changes in disease prevalence patterns.

It said the region’s medical market was estimated to be about 40 bil lion yen, and cont inued expansion was expected.

“Among these countries, Malaysia, with its advanced he a lt hca re, is ac t ively promoting medical tourism as one of the nation’s growth industries, and is receiving large numbers of patients from abroad.

“In order to provide topquality healthcare in Malaysia, there is a growing need among medical institutio­ns to install cutting- edge medical technologi­es such as Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE area detector CT systems,” it said.

TMSC started business in Malaysia in August 1981 through Abex and has implemente­d local sales and service activities.

TMSC said that with the advantage of collaborat­ion with globally expanded research & developmen­t ( R& D) centers and training centers, both within and outside Japan, establishm­ent of a subsidiary in Malaysia would allow the latest Toshiba systems to be used to their fullest potential.

The company sa id it would continue ef forts to cont r ibute to hea lthcare in Mal aysi a and other Southeast Asian countries by enhancing product s with high value added and by strengthen­ing its service system to meet market needs. — Bernama
